Winching
On Every UK Motorway
Our vehicle winching service uses powerful hydraulic and electric winches to extract vehicles that are stuck, stranded, or in positions where they cannot be driven out. We handle everything from cars stuck in ditches to vehicles embedded in mud, snow, or sand, using controlled winching techniques to prevent damage.

About Our Winching Service
When a vehicle ends up somewhere it cannot drive out of, winching is often the safest and most effective solution. Our professional winching service uses powerful, controlled equipment to extract vehicles from ditches, embankments, mud, snow, sand, and other difficult situations without causing damage to the vehicle or the surrounding environment.
Our winching equipment includes vehicle-mounted hydraulic winches with pulling capacities from 5 tonnes to 30 tonnes, portable electric winches for lighter applications, and a range of recovery straps, shackles, and snatch blocks that allow us to configure the winch for any situation. The key to successful winching is applying the right amount of force in the right direction, and our operators are skilled in calculating pull angles, setting up mechanical advantage systems, and monitoring the recovery to prevent sudden movements that could damage the vehicle or endanger bystanders.
Common winching scenarios include vehicles that have left the road and ended up in ditches or on embankments, cars stuck in muddy fields or car parks, vehicles that have slid off icy roads, and boats or trailers that have become stuck on slipways. We also provide winching support for other recovery operations, such as loading damaged vehicles onto flatbed transporters when they cannot be driven on under their own power. Our operators assess every winching job individually, considering factors such as the vehicle's weight, the angle of extraction, ground conditions, and potential anchor points. If the standard winch is not sufficient, we can set up multi-line pulls or bring in heavier equipment. Safety is always our first priority, and we will never attempt a winch recovery that we consider unsafe.

What Is Included
What's Involved in Winching
Winching is the recovery technique of last resort for vehicles that have left the road or become embedded in soft ground, and it requires more planning than it might appear from the outside. Before any line is attached, the technician carries out a ground assessment: identifying safe anchor points, calculating the required pull angle to extract the vehicle cleanly without pivoting it into additional hazards, and checking the condition of the ground between the stuck vehicle and the recovery truck. Applying force in the wrong direction or without sufficient anchor resistance can worsen the situation significantly.
The equipment used depends on the scenario. A straightforward ditch extraction, where the vehicle has left the road at a shallow angle and is sitting on its wheels, typically uses a direct pull from the recovery truck's hydraulic winch, with a tree protector strap around a suitable anchor point or a ground anchor driven into firm earth when no natural anchor is available. More complex situations, such as a vehicle on a steep embankment or deep in soft mud, benefit from a snatch block arrangement that doubles the mechanical advantage and allows the pull to be redirected. Snatch blocks also reduce the load on the winch line, which is important when the vehicle is heavy or has settled deeply into the ground. The winch line is always dressed with a dampening strap before a pull, which absorbs energy in the event of a sudden line failure.
Common winching scenarios include vehicles that have slid off icy roads, cars that have gone through farm entrances or soft verges, and vehicles that have bottomed out in flooded dips or fords. Once the vehicle is back on solid ground, the technician will check that the steering, wheels, and underside have not sustained damage that would make it unsafe to drive. If recovery to a garage is needed rather than simply being driven away, the winch operation is often followed by loading onto a flatbed on the same attendance. All winching work is carried out with appropriate warning signs in place to protect both the recovery crew and other road users.

What Our Customers Say
“Broke down at 11pm on the M25 near the Wisley interchange. Called these guys and they had a recovery truck with me in under 40 minutes. Professional, friendly, and the price was exactly what they quoted on the phone. Genuinely saved my night.”
“Ran out of diesel like an idiot between Luton and Milton Keynes on the M1. Pulled onto the hard shoulder near Junction 10 and called them. They delivered 10 litres of diesel within the hour and even checked my tyre pressures while they were there. No judgement, just helpful.”
“My van broke down fully loaded heading north on the M6 past Stoke. Other companies quoted ridiculous prices or said they could not do it until morning. These guys came out at 2am with a flatbed and sorted everything. Will not use anyone else.”
