4x4 Recovery
On Every UK Motorway
Our 4x4 recovery service handles the unique challenges of recovering larger, heavier all-wheel-drive vehicles. We use heavy-duty equipment rated for the additional weight of SUVs and off-road vehicles, and our operators understand the complexities of recovering vehicles with permanent four-wheel drive, differential locks, and transfer cases.

About Our 4x4 Recovery Service
Four-wheel-drive vehicles present unique challenges during recovery operations. Their heavier weight, complex drivetrain systems, and often larger dimensions mean that standard recovery techniques may not be suitable. Our specialist 4x4 recovery service is equipped and trained to handle these challenges, ensuring your vehicle is recovered safely and without drivetrain damage.
One of the most important considerations when recovering a 4x4 is the drivetrain configuration. Towing an all-wheel-drive vehicle incorrectly can cause serious damage to the transfer case, centre differential, and transmission. Our operators understand the differences between part-time 4WD, full-time 4WD, and AWD systems, and they know which vehicles can be towed with wheels on the ground and which must be transported on a flatbed. When in doubt, we always default to flatbed recovery to eliminate any risk of drivetrain damage.
Our fleet includes heavy-duty flatbed transporters with low-angle loading ramps suitable for vehicles with limited approach and departure angles. We also carry extended ramps for vehicles with very low ground clearance or heavy aftermarket accessories like bull bars, rock sliders, and winch bumpers. Whether your Range Rover has broken down on the M25, your Land Rover Defender is stuck on a green lane, or your Toyota Hilux has suffered a mechanical failure on a building site, we have the equipment and expertise to recover it. We serve customers across the entire UK and operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

What's Involved in 4x4 Recovery
The most common mistake made when recovering an all-wheel-drive vehicle is towing it with the drive wheels on the ground without first consulting the manufacturer's guidance. On many modern AWD systems, including those fitted to popular Range Rover, BMW X5, Audi Q-series, and Volvo XC models, towing with the rear wheels on the ground and the propshaft turning will cause oil starvation in the transfer case within a short distance. The safe default for any AWD vehicle where the documentation is not immediately available is flatbed recovery, and that is the approach we take.
Heavier SUVs also present challenges that standard car recovery equipment simply is not rated for. A long-wheelbase Range Rover Sport or a Toyota Land Cruiser 200-series can weigh over 2,800 kilograms unladen. Combined with a high centre of gravity and often wider track, these vehicles need heavier-rated flatbed decks, wider ramps, and higher-capacity tie-down systems than those used for ordinary cars. Low-angle loading ramps are particularly important for vehicles that have been lifted or that have front bull bars and skid plates reducing their approach angle.
Off-road recoveries, a Defender stuck in mud on a green lane, or a pickup that has slid off a farm track, are handled differently from on-road breakdowns. A cable winch anchored to our recovery vehicle or to a ground anchor is the standard technique for extracting a stuck 4x4 without dragging it sideways or causing additional undercarriage damage. The pull angle matters: a straight, low-angle line minimises the risk of body damage and avoids sudden jerks that could stress drivetrain components. Once the vehicle is on firm ground, a roadside check determines whether it is driveable or needs to come onto the flatbed for transport to a garage.

What Our Customers Say
“Broke down at 11pm on the M25 near the Wisley interchange. Called these guys and they had a recovery truck with me in under 40 minutes. Professional, friendly, and the price was exactly what they quoted on the phone. Genuinely saved my night.”
“Ran out of diesel like an idiot between Luton and Milton Keynes on the M1. Pulled onto the hard shoulder near Junction 10 and called them. They delivered 10 litres of diesel within the hour and even checked my tyre pressures while they were there. No judgement, just helpful.”
“My van broke down fully loaded heading north on the M6 past Stoke. Other companies quoted ridiculous prices or said they could not do it until morning. These guys came out at 2am with a flatbed and sorted everything. Will not use anyone else.”
