Many modern vehicles no longer come with a full-size spare wheel. Some have a space-saver spare, some have a tyre repair kit, and some have nothing at all. Whatever your situation, our technician will assess the damage and determine the best course of action. If you have a spare wheel, we will fit it quickly and safely, torquing the nuts to the manufacturer's specification. If you have a space-saver, we will fit it and advise you on the speed and distance limitations. If you have no spare at all, we can apply a temporary plug repair to get you to the nearest tyre fitting centre, or arrange recovery if the damage is too severe.

A tyre blowout at motorway speeds or a slow puncture discovered in a car park both demand the same basic response: the damaged tyre needs to come off and something roadworthy needs to go on in its place. The job sounds straightforward, but working on a wheel at the roadside, particularly on a hard shoulder or a poorly lit layby, carries real risk, and the physical challenge of loosening wheel nuts that were tightened by a pneumatic gun is regularly underestimated. Our technicians arrive with the professional equipment and the motorway working training to handle it safely.
The first step is assessing the damage. A clean nail in the central tread area of an otherwise sound tyre is a candidate for a professional plug-and-patch repair, which restores a serviceable tyre and saves the spare. A sidewall tear, a blowout, or damage within 40mm of the bead leaves no repair option, and the spare, full-size, space-saver, or run-flat, must go on. Our technicians carry an impact wrench for seized nuts and a full set of locking wheel nut removal tools for situations where the key has been lost or is at home in a kitchen drawer. Wheel nuts are torqued to the correct specification using a calibrated torque wrench, not guessed by feel, because under-tightened nuts on a motorway are a serious hazard.
Modern vehicles increasingly omit a spare wheel entirely, supplying only a foam tyre sealant kit. Sealant is a temporary measure and works only on minor tread punctures, it is not a solution for a blowout, nor for a tyre on a vehicle fitted with TPMS sensors, which the compound can damage. When sealant is insufficient or absent, we can either fit a replacement tyre from the range we carry on the service vehicle or arrange a short recovery to the nearest tyre fitting centre. The decision is always based on what leaves the vehicle genuinely roadworthy, not just moveable.
